2016Nippers for Plastic Models
Just got my hand on some Godhand nippers, so I decided to do a simple review on the nippers i got in hand. (personal and stock).

Here are the nippers i use in this review, from left to top right, Nine Sea sharp pointed cutter, Godhand normal nipper, Tamiya Sharp pointed cutter, my 10 y/o Tamiya sharp pointed cutter, my 7 month old Godhand Ultimate Nipper, my 2 y/o Mr Hobby nipper.
Okay, here are the outcome, i tested them on bandai’s sprue, and Meng’s sprue. The thickness and hardness of the plastics are different. Bandai plastic are slightly harder than Meng plastic, Bandai in 2.5mm Meng in 3.0mm
Result of GodHand’s normal cutter, sharp blade which won’t have much problem with 1 mm or less plastic gate on parts. Stress mark can be seen on 2.5mm and 3.0 mm
Result of Mr. Hobby’s Mr. Nipper, although I love some of Mr. Hobby tools and supplies, but not this nipper. The blade is kinda blunt and basically i need to force through the 3mm plastic rod. Need to be extra careful with part as it tend to tear the plastic.

Result of 9 sea sharp point plastic cutter, this cutter done pretty decent job, but like mr. nipper don’t cut too close to parts, it tend to tear the edge out.

Result of Tamiya sharp point cutter, i use the new one for this review. I do find out that even after 10 years, the sharpness almost remain same, very durable and reliable cutter. It’s not recommend to cut too close to the parts with this cutter.

Result of Godhand Ultimate nipper, very minimal stress mark. Do very careful when cutting 3 mm plastic sprue, the thin blade are very fragile. Recommend to use for trimming nubs, as sharp as pen knife.
I try some of them on clear part, i using 3 mm clear extra sprue from Hasegawa, clear part are hard but most easy to crack.

Tamiya

GodHand Ultimate nipper

GodHand Normal nipper
I didn’t take picture of 9 sea and mr hobby, both crack the clear part rather than cutting them.
9 Sea plastic plier – cutter with such price tag, you can’t complaint. It’s very affordable and it’s quite sharp, value for every cents. Not recommend to cut too near the parts. I know someone who own few of it, and he place them in office, home and even in bag. I just tell what i been told, no bluff. hahaha.
Mr Hobby Mr. Nipper – higher price than 9 sea but about the same price with GodHand normal nipper, still can perform decent job just to cut part from sprue. Not recommend to cut near the model parts.
Tamiya sharp pointed – expensive cutter for some, but it’s worth. Very durable and suitable for almost all kind of plastic, recommended for serious scale modeler, it last a live time and still remain sharp.
GodHand normal nipper – it’s comparable to Tamiya in term of sharpness, but it cost less than Tamiya. Kinda surprise for me, it look like it design for kids, but it’s too sharp for kids.
GodHand Ultimate nipper – The famous and infamous nipper for hobbyist. Famous for it’s cut plastic like butter sharpness and infamous for it brittle and fragile thin blade and also the price. It actually make my work faster as i can cut near the part and just get on to sanding, and not to forgot, it really work well for clear part, minimal stress mark.
